New Law Further Supports Our Military Veterans
November 7, 2014
WINDSOR – Hants West MLA Chuck Porter has successfully passed a private members bill which expands the class of veterans who are to be given preference for appointment to the Civil Service. “Our veterans deserve all the support we can offer them,” Porter said.
The new definition of “veteran” honours the service of our modern veterans, those veterans of peacekeeping missions, and the Canadian mission in Afghanistan, alongside our veterans of the Second World War and the Korean War.
“Helping our new generation of veterans transition to civilian life through increased opportunities in the civil service is a win-win,” said Porter. “The veterans are offered positions they are qualified for and the civil service gets great employees.”
