HALIFAX, NS – Today in the Legislature, Hants West MLA Chuck Porter kept the pressure on Health Minister Leo Glavine to secure renal dialysis units at the Hants Community Hospital in Windsor.
"The first question I asked in the Legislature this session was about providing peace of mind for Hants County dialysis patients and getting a unit here at our hospital," said Porter. “All we want is to be treated fairly."
The community has been working hard, raising funds to get dialysis units set up at the local hospital in Windsor. Porter is committed to working with the Minister of Health and Wellness, Leo Glavine, to make certain the new government understands the struggles facing patients in Hants County.
"I was encouraged by the Minister's response in the Legislature. He committed to review our situation in Hants County but 'review' is only a first step," said Porter. "Dialysis patients and their families have enough stress without having to worry about travelling to Halifax in the winter months for their appointments."
In addition to funds raised by the community, the Hospital Foundation has pledged $80,000 to purchase two machines.
