Porter calls for Digital Screening unit
Nov 30 2010 WINDSOR – Hants West MLA Chuck Porter tabled a petition in the Legislature today containing 628 names calling on Health Minister Maureen MacDonald to purchase a digital mammography unit for the Western Regional Breast Screening Mobile Unit “Our community has been consistent and constant in our call for this digital unit and I was pleased to present this petition in the Legislature today,” said Porter. “Minister MacDonald will continue to hear from me on this issue until she understands that this piece of equipment is needed in our community. Let’s put people first, not politics.”
More than 5,300 Canadian women die each year from breast cancer and Porter wants to ensure women in Western Nova Scotia have access to life-saving equipment and technology on an every day basis.
The Western Regional Breast Screening Mobile Unit services Berwick, Caledonia, Chester, Greenwood, Hantsport, Liverpool, Lunenburg, New Germany, New Ross, Windsor and Wolfville.
