Porter gets commitment for Hantsport school renovation

April 11, 2014

For immediate release

HANTSPORT, NS – Hants West PC MLA Chuck Porter is very pleased the government has agreed to fully fund the cost of completing much needed renovations to Hantsport School.

“It’s a great school filled with great kids,” says Porter. “They really deserve this and I’m excited students will have the opportunity to learn in a newly upgraded environment.”

Porter announced the project in 2009, but due to cost overruns the project was stalled.

Today in estimates, the Minister of Education gave Porter a commitment to fund the rest of the project and complete the school’s upgrade.

Gravel Road Weight Restrictions

February 27, 2014 -

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal is monitoring air and road temperatures and expects spring weight restrictions to be put in place on Monday, March 10.

Because the restrictions have a significant impact on the trucking industry, the department strives to provide as much advance notice as possible.

The department works closely with the trucking industry and Environment Canada to determine a date that will best protect road surfaces while giving sufficient notice to truckers.

Weight restrictions are necessary during the spring thaw to help protect roads that are weakened by mild and wet weather. When weight restrictions are imposed, a list of roads that are exempt will be published in newspapers across the province.

Windsor hopes to become ‘the mecca of hockey’ with new arena

Public discusses potential for project, questions costs

It seems the general public is largely in favour of a concept calling for the construction of a first-rate arena complex in Windsor.

A committee comprised of representatives of the King’s-Edgehill School, Town of Windsor, Municipality of West Hants, Dill Farm and local hockey organizations has been meeting for months to explore the plausibility of building a world-class arena complex along College Road.

Draft plans indicate that the arena could be built on a parcel of land between King’s-Edgehill and the Dill Farm’s renowned Long Pond, the Cradle of Hockey.
